Karaoke, anyone?

My husband and I went out Thursday night, and had an amazing time (as usual) at our local karaoke bar.  I love to sing, and I like to think I'm pretty good at it, so we do this as often as we can...normally a couple times a month, if we can find a babysitter.  :)

Anyway...  Keep in mind that we live in a small town, smack-dab in the middle of the Bible Belt herself, and most of the people here are, well...I'll just say not very "alternative" or "trendy".  There are about a million country music radio stations here, one or two top 40 stations, and zero...yes, ZERO...alternative or rock stations.  As a matter of fact, drive 10 miles in any direction, and you will come across some sort of pasture with livestock or cotton fields.  LOL.  Thank goodness Memphis is only about an hour or so away, or I might die.  Seriously.

This area actually reminds me a lot of the extremely tiny town I grew up in.  There are no awesome night clubs here, and if people go to the bar, they're usually wearing minimal makeup, natural haircolor, jeans, and a t-shirt.  I prefer my uber-bright, mega-sparkly makeup and lots of bats, skulls, black, and leather!  LOL.  And my hair is...well...it depends on what day of the week it is.  :)

Needless to say, I don't really fit in here.  We just moved to this area a little over three months ago, and EVERY TIME my husband and I go to the bar, we get asked, "You're not from around here, are you?"  LOL.  I find it amusing...but I also find it a great opportunity to enlighten some people on the thrills of a little open-mindedness.  I tend to be a little bit of a trendsetter, so let's see if any of my flamboyant sense of style catches on here.  My guess...NOT LIKELY.  Haha!

Anyway...here's the look I wore to the bar this past Thursday.  You can imagine how much I was stared at that night, but I received tons of compliments...so it's nice to know that "different" isn't feared here.  I just have a feeling I'm a lot braver than most of the women who live here were taught to be when it comes to fashion and/or personal style.  :)

So, here's my look.  I saw this necklace on
Phyrra's blog and had to have it!

On eyes, I used:  Hi-Fi Cosmetics Hi Fi Shadows in
Buttercup (inner corner), Mind Manipulator (mid lid),
Live Large (outer corner and crease), and Tell Me Lies
(highlight).  This is on top of Hi-Fi Cosmetics eyeshadow
base (coming soon!).  I also used Hard Candy Walk the
Line Liquid Liner in Asphalt (upper lashline), Urban Decay
24/7 Pencil in Zero, and Hard Candy Take Me Out Liner
in Ahi (lower lashline).

Here's another shot of both eyes.

On lips, I used:  LA Girl lipstick in Last Night with
Soap & Glory's Sexy Motherpucker gloss in Baby Doll
layered on top.

Here's a photo of me in less-than-fabulous
lighting conditions.

And here's the whole thing again!  :)

So...what do you think?  Do any of you live in an area where you don't really "fit in"?  Do you choose to be yourself and carry your own personal style regardless?  Let me know your thoughts!

I LOVE the look!
The lips totally make it for me.
You look amazingly hot!
And of course, I love the necklace on you <3
That's exactly the sort of bat that I like, it's cute. I hate the bats that look gross.

@Kira You really should! Whenever I can't make up my mind on what to do with my face, this always seems to be my "go to" look! :)

@Phyrra I usually don't wear really bright or dark lip colors, as I prefer to stay sheer and/or super-shimmery...but I was SO happy with this, so it's probably my new favorite! And I'm with you on the bat thing...MUST be cute. Those nasty looking things with beady eyes and snarling, grotesque faces...yeah. They can stay in caves...and horror movies. My clothing and accessories will live without them. LOL.

Gorgeous! I shouldn't try this though :D But looks great with your coloring.

You look absolutely amazing! I really love this look and will try it for sure once my latest haul with Live large reaches me.

I'm pretty much the only one in my class wearing bold and bright eyeshadow colors but who cares since I love it, LOL.

So pretty. Very bright and vibrant. I live amongst corn fields in Illinois so it is a little country around here. My daughter goes to a private christian school and let me tell you when I do the brights people stare. In good old Walmart too.. Now if I go about 1 hr and 30 min. away to Chicago things are different. Clubs and lots of goth and bright makeup so there people look at you as normal. Around here not so much. Little kids always ask why are you wearing blue on your eyes? That is weird...Oh yea get this at school all the time but hey I love it!!! The brighter the better!!!

I almost did a look like this yesterday! But I went with a darker smokey look instead. I'd say my area is a mix of various things. In Boulder, there are a lot of hippy trends mostly, like boho, gypsy style. But if I go to Denver, there is such a mix in trends I couldn't say what stands out more than others. I still don't fit into any of them but I have sort of a "tribal steampunk" style. You can google it if you don't know what steampunk is. :-)

This looks amazing!! I love Mind Manipulator and Buttercup....I need them!! (Already have Live Large, haha!) The pink lips totally make the look. You look so gorgeous with bright lips!!

Well, the city I live in is an "old person" town. It's really funny because every time I go to the grocery store I have these lil old ladies scared of my lip ring. I've toned down my look a lot since we moved here. The weird thing is that no one really wears makeup around me. So, the bright Hi Fi shadows always get me lots of compliments! (And stares, but whatever haha).

hehe I know the feeling oh so well. My hubs is stationed here at the lovely ft polk. There is nothing but a handful of cowboy bars for a 60 mile radius, and I have a full sleeve, and my chest is tattooed as well. I <3 bats and skulls and I frequently wear waistlength dreadlocks in shades of purple. When we actually DO go out, I tend to go for tutus and corsets...the looks are always interesting.

Sooo pretty! I love using Tell Me Lies as a highlighter :) I think I look kind of weird sometimes at school with my bright makeup, since everyone is so damn boring where I live, but I do get compliments a lot. I need to do a look with my Live Large soon...

Gorgeous look. I love it. That lipstick is fabulous, too.

I grew up and still live in a small town. If I walk 10 feet out of my yard I'm in a field, hah. I live close to San Antonio (which is a very metal-loving city) and Austin (which is very artsy and alternative), so I don't have to go TOO far...but I definitely know how you feel. I think people are used to me now, though. Haha.

Couldn't wait for my package and tried the look with Live by passion instead of Live large. The colors are so gorgeous, I love it!

I LOVE this look, especially the hot pink lips.

My city in Australia is renowned for its surfing and beach culture, so occasionally I feel like a bit of a misfit - but I've made a lot of friends with similar style to me, and I dont have any problems making friends who are supposedly ~normal.

Luckily it's a big enough city that you're guaranteed to find someone similar to you =/
